New ISACA Chapter Promotes Awareness of IT Risk 

Malta (5 April 2005) — A long-held goal of a group of information technology (IT) auditors in Malta has finally been realized with the formation of Malta’s first chapter of ISACA®.

“We all share a common goal—creating awareness of IT risks and equipping IT auditors with knowledge that will help them do their jobs to the best of their abilities,” said Alan J. Alden, president of the Malta Chapter and manager at Deloitte & Touche.

Deloitte is sending Alden to ISACA’s Global Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, Nev., USA,  in April to represent the new chapter.  While there, he will also attend ISACA’s North America Computer Audit, Control and Security Conference to learn the newest updates in the IT profession and share them with the chapter.

With more than 35,000 members in more than 100 countries, ISACA (www.isaca.org) is a recognized worldwide leader in IT governance, control, security and assurance. Founded in 1969, ISACA sponsors international conferences, publishes the Information Systems Control Journal, and develops international information systems auditing and control standards. The association administers the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designation, earned by more than 38,000 professionals since its inception in 1978, and the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designation, earned by 5,100 professionals since it was introduced in 2002.

Alden and other board members organized Malta’s first CISA exam in 1996.  More than 20 professionals took the 2004 exam, and another 15 are registered for this year’s test.

“Those figures are very encouraging for a small island,” Alden said.

The Malta Chapter will hold its Annual General Meeting in June. Chapter officers include:
