IT Professionals Establish ISACA Ibadan Chapter to Promote Information Security in Nigeria

Rolling Meadows, Illinois, USA (01 February 2013)—Information technology (IT) professionals in Ibadan, Nigeria, have formed a new chapter of ISACA, a nonprofit association serving more than 100,000 IT audit, security, risk and governance professionals in 180 countries. The Ibadan Chapter is ISACA’s 199th worldwide and the third in Nigeria.

The ISACA IbadanChapter’s mission is to provide support to local ISACA members, promote IT education, and strengthen the governance of enterprise IT in Nigeria to help enterprises gain trust in, and value from, their information systems. More than 40 members have already joined the chapter.

“We needed an ISACA chapter in Ibadan to promote information security, IT control, IT audit and IT governance in areas other than Lagos and Abuja,” said GbadamosiFolakemiToyin, CGEIT, CRISC, ISACA Ibadan Chapter president. “This chapter offers the opportunity to participate actively at a local chapter, without the burden of a long commute.”

MuyiwaOyebadejo, CISA, ISACA Ibadan Chapter member, said, “When I heard about the Ibadan Chapter, I appreciated the opportunity to pursue continuing professional education closer to my place of work and my home in Ibadan.”

To achieve its goals, the chapter will focus on developing relationships with universities and other higher education establishments by contributing to relevant course work and lectures, inviting students to join ISACA events, and providing support to students studying for ISACA certifications. The chapter will offer monthly meetings (including panels of experts who will provide their views on relevant topic, such as IT security and controls), seminars, workshops, training courses and networking opportunities, along with a chapter web site that will include all chapter activities.
