Medellin, Colombia (31 July 2014)—Information technology (IT) professionals in Medellin, Colombia, have formed a new chapter of ISACA, a global IT association of more than 115,000 IT governance professionals. The Medellin Chapter is ISACA’s 205th chapter and the 22nd ISACA chapter in Latin America.
Medellin is home to large financial services, insurance and textile companies, and concern about IT governance, compliance and information security issues is increasing. The ISACA Medellin Chapter was created to help improve the skills of local professionals and offer the guidance, resources and good practices from ISACA. Around 80 local professionals have already joined the chapter.
“In developing this chapter, our hope is to ease the growing concerns of local enterprise leaders by providing professionals with the guidance and training they need to comply with required laws,” said Mauricio Henriquez, CISA, CFA, president of the new ISACA Medellin Chapter. “We are excited to provide many local industries with ISACA’s leading globally accepted knowledge and practices.”
The Medellin Chapter invites all local members to an event to celebrate its initiation on 15 August 2014. Chapter events in 2014 will include at least four meetings covering Colombia’s Personal Data Protection Law, COBIT 5 Foundations, the impact of privacy in IT governance, and security principles related to hiring IT suppliers. A review course and exam preparation for ISACA’s Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification exam will also be offered biannually.
“The nearest ISACA chapter was not at a convenient distance, and many local residents showed interest in creating a chapter right here in Medellin,” said Henriquez. “The members are very excited about the opportunities they will now have closer to home.”
