In 2009, ISACA developed a strategy focused on becoming the global leader in products and services that support trust in, and value from, information systems. By 2011, having accomplished many of the 2009 goals, ISACA began work on an extension of the 2009 strategy. In recognition of the strategy’s 10-year horizon for completion, it is referred to as Strategy 2022, or S22, for short.

Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia

Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia’s main goals were to achieve higher maturity levels for IT processes, control IT risks and manage IT investments. Before implementing COBIT, the financial institution assessed IT process maturity levels and found that many processes had maturity levels of 2. After implementing COBIT, the bank reassessed the maturity and found that all processes were at maturity levels of at least 3 and often 4 (the results ware validated by external auditors).

It also developed an IT security policy and procedure for account provisioning, as well as a new service management system that will address service request, incident and problem management. Notable advantages include formalizing and documenting controls, policies and procedures. Many areas achieved improvements from the self-testing program, including noticing minor exceptions sooner and being able to correct them efficiently. They also used COBIT as a common language, which worked well among various process areas as well as with internal auditors.

The enterprise has successfully leveraged the concepts in the COBIT-related materials to create discussion of health and maturity self-assessments; provide a line of sight between its activities and its business goals; bring predictability and reliability to how the IT group plans and manages the work across the enterprise; and complement its corporate planning cycle with an “IT management cycle.”
