Presented by ISACA, SearchCompliance and SearchSecurity

As mobile phones and tablets become the primary endpoint devices for employees, more corporate data will be accessed outside of company walls. The increasing bandwidth consumed from devices that are difficult to manage, and largely not understood, can cause vulnerability concerns.

It’s no surprise, then, that mobile security and BYOD initiatives have jumped to the top of senior IT and compliance leaders' list of concerns.

How can you lower the risk of corporate data being lost or stolen?

In our virtual conference on 19 July, SearchCompliance, SearchSecurity and ISACA bring today's leading security and compliance experts directly to you to examine mobile device management, data protection technologies and malicious mobile applications.

Join us on 19 July from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM EDT (UTC–4) to:

  • Connect with thousands of your peers from across the globe
  • Earn 5 FREE CPE hours without the cost of travel
  • Ask questions directly to industry experts and speakers
  • Enhance your professional knowledge

Education Sessions:

Session 1: "Bring Your Own Device" Legal Issues under European Privacy and Data Protection Law

Presented by: Johan Vandendriessche, Independent Technology and Privacy Lawyer

Johan Vandendriessche

Johan Vandendriessche is a Belgian based independent IT lawyer specializing in IT contracts, information security, privacy and data protection. In 2001, he was admitted to the Bar after having gained experience in data protection issues as an academic researcher. In addition to his current activities as a lawyer, he is also the author of several publications and a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars.

Use of personally owned PCs or mobile devices–typically more difficult to secure than work-issued devices and used for a wide range of often high-risk online activities–means that sensitive corporate information may be compromised through device theft or loss, or malware attacks. Join Johan Vandendriessche as he provides an overview of the privacy and security challenges of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) under the current EU privacy and data protection legislation. In this session, attendees will learn more about:

  • The proposed new EU legal framework for the protection of personal data
  • How EU directives may impact  companies who have  adopted BYOD
  • Specific scenarios encountered when adopting BYOD policies

Session 2: BYOD: Preparing Your Organization for the Connectivity Wave

Presented by: John Harris, Chief Architect and Global VP IT Strategy, GlaxoSmithKline and founder, Corporate IT Forum

John HarrisAs Chief Architect and VP Global IT Strategy at GSK, John is accountable for leading a distributed architecture function to ensure that GSK gets optimum value from IT investments. He is also responsible for ensuring that an end-to-end IT strategy exists and is well understood across the organization, based on a series of simple principles. Encouraging disruptive IT innovation cells and promoting external learning is critical to the success of this role.

Nearly every CIO today lists the influx of new, consumer-grade mobile devices into the enterprise among their chief concerns. The variety of devices and platforms, the increase in security concerns, and the modern workforce’s desire for constant connectivity make the implementation and management of a truly mobile enterprise seem daunting. The CIOs who succeed with BYOD initiatives are generally those who anticipate the workforce mobility wave, make reasoned decisions based on business strategy, and limit the choice of device – and amount of access – the organization can realistically handle. In this SearchComplaince.com presentation, John Harris, chief architect and VP of global IT strategy at pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline and chairman of the Corporate IT Forum will share real-world experiences with BYOD efforts and show how successful projects blend tech savvy, business acumen, and innovation. You’ll hear:

  • How to asses technologies and decide which mobile devices best suit your enterprise.
  • Best practices for establishing monitoring and management of mobile devices for security, reliability, and compliance
  • Ways to better align BYOD initiatives with business requirements to bolster innovation and maximize ROI.

Session 3: Choosing the Most Secure Mobile Platform

Presented by: Lisa Phifer, president, Core Competence Inc.

Lisa PhiferLisa Phifer has been involved in the design, implementation, and evaluation of networking, security, and management products for over 25 years. Since joining Core Competence in 1995, she has advised companies large and small regarding security needs, product assessment, and the use of emerging technologies and best practices. Lisa teaches about wireless LANs and mobile device security and management, and has written extensively for numerous publications, such as enterpriseNetworkingPlanet, Information Security Magazine, SearchMobileComputing, SearchSecurity, and more.

Enterprises embrace the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon in order to support growing mobile workforces and increase productivity. The diversity of mobile platforms, however, has thrown IT security managers for a loop. Each of the major smartphone and tablet platforms—Android, iOS, RIM/BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile—brings with it a variety of security challenges. And the security solutions are as diverse as the platforms themselves. In this session, our expert will dive into each of the major platforms and examine their respective built-in security features, look at potential weaknesses and reported vulnerabilities within each and how to best secure them from a policy and technology standpoint.

Session 4: Safeguarding Mobile Applications

As smartphone and tablet sales explode, enterprise and third-party software developers are leveraging these increasingly-ubiquitous devices to run mobile applications. But ensuring safe, productive business use of mobile applications requires a solid understanding of mobile application ecosystems, mobile security threats and corresponding business risks. In this session, attendees will learn about:

  • Commonly used mobile business applications for consumer smartphones and tablets
  • Processes and policies that dictate how mobile applications can be distributed and updated, including public third-party and private enterprise-developed applications
  • Security threats that face mobile applications, from leaked business data and credentials to exploitation by “jail break” programs and mobile malware
  • Associated business risks and regulatory compliance implications
  • Emerging best practices to ensure safe, productive mobile business application use

Further Insight:  Participants may submit questions during the live Q&A sessions that follow each presentation.
