ITIL and Data Center Operations

I am starting to design and write a class for Data Center Operations staff with reference to ITIL process. And, I find there's insufficient material on the exact activities that an operator has to do at the console. For example, the necessary steps and controls to ensure Executing a Change is correct and effective. Any who encounters similar issues, let me know and I have the answer for you.

RE: ITIL and Data Center Operations

Hi HonPSuen, if youre are looking for a detailed procedure or work instruction, you must look into the same IT Organization, not in ITIL, those are internal customized procedures, if your organization doesn't have it, you must develop them from the knowledge of the IT People.

RE: ITIL and Data Center Operations

Agree. ITIL is about Key processes and Data Center Operations requires Procedures. There is big gap between ITIL and on-the-ground activities. People who pass the examination cannot translate the knowledge into work. Too Bad. I am trying to fill in the gap.

RE: ITIL and Data Center Operations

Am sure you must have made substantial progress.
I agree when you say there is a gap- in fact huge / big gap- between what is taught in the class room and what is practised at the Data Center. This is understandable.
What shall we do? Could we start from some of the simple and immediately required processes and build the detailed procedures? When they demonstrate value to the business, we may expand and bring entire data center operations within the scope.
I think this way we will  prove that ITIL is not mere theory. Also we will grow wiser from getting frustrated!!
