Reference for deleted master

Does SAP maintain reference information of a deleted master record? For example, if I delete  vendor, will the transactions usig the vendor (such as PO) will continue to show the vendor details? I believe it should - but just want to check if someone has tried checking it.

RE: Reference for deleted master

Hello.
I'm Mr.Jung Seung Won from Korea.

If there are transactions using that vendor , you cannot delete vendor. the same as customers.
There is deletion flag in vendor or customer information, but you can use it only in case there is no transaction.
In case that there are transactions, you can use "posting block flag" .
Then you cannot create new transacion, but you can see transactions using that vendor.

Are you clear now? :)
If you have more question, let me know.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Won

RE: Reference for deleted master

Hi,
You cannot delete a master record which has related information in transactions (historical) file. As explained by Mr. Won above, you can purge/flag the record as inactive (in which case no posting will be done),but you can still access it when need arises. This is one of the major controls implemented at the database level of any application (Financial or otherwise)

Thanks.

RE: Reference for deleted master

HI,

Thanks for your replies. You can delete vendors (or customers) with transactions in SAP. You canot delete vendors (or customers) with OPEN items/ transactions though. My question relates to a situation where a vendor with no open transactions/ items is deleted. Will it impact the old transactions in terms of extracting vendor information?

I have been lazy - I should simply try it out in SAP and check :)

But, if someone has already tried it - it will be great to hear from them!

BTW, good to see some activities on the forum.
