RE: How to disable Windows Server 2012 Metro UI?

If you don't like to Metro UI, I recommend you don't install the Desktop Experience or Install Server Core and use PowerShell.

But, if you still want the Desktop Experience, do the following on a TEST environment.

1. Open the Registry Key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
2. Create a key RPEnabled with a value 0
3. Restart the computer

To return to the Metro UI, change the value to 1.

Alternatively one could resort to third party tools like classic shell. (http://www.classicshell.net)

This however could be impossible because of policy or security concerns that is posed by it being third party software.
