VERY IMPORTANT - Changes to the ISACA certification CPE policies4/9/2013 8:51 PM

Chapter Members,

Clarifications and changes to the ISACA certification CPE policies have been made in the following areas:

Reconsideration and Appeal, Calculating CPE Hours, Exam Question Development and Review (no limit), and Contributions to the Profession. These modifications went into effect 1 January 2013 and have been approved by the Credentialing and Career Management Board. They are universal and apply equally to all ISACA certifications.

The ISACA CPE policy requires the attainment of CPE hours over an annual and three-year certification period. CISAs must comply with the following requirements to retain certification:

  • Attain and report an annual minimum of twenty (20) CPE hours. These hours must be appropriate to the currency or advancement of the CISA's knowledge or ability to perform CISA-related tasks. The use of these hours towards meeting the CPE requirements for multiple ISACA certifications is permissible when the professional activity is applicable to satisfying the job-related knowledge of each certification.
  • Submit annual CPE maintenance fees to ISACA international headquarters in full.
  • Attain and report a minimum of one hundred and twenty (120) CPE hours for a three-year reporting period.
  • Respond and submit required documentation of CPE activities if selected for the annual audit.
  • Comply with ISACA's Code of Professional Ethics.
Annual and Three-Year Certification Period
  • The annual reporting period begins on 1 January of each year. The three-year certification period varies and is indicated on each annual invoice and on the letter confirming annual compliance.
  • For newly certified individuals, the annual and three-year certification period begins on 1 January of the year succeeding certification. Reporting CPE hours attained during the year of certification is not required. However, hours attained between the date of certification and 31 December of that year can be used and reported as hours earned in the initial reporting period.

Call for Volunteers!4/9/2013 8:09 PM

Call for Volunteers!

We are looking for someone to fill the post of Research Director. Like most things in this life, it is what you make it. In general, the role of Research Director is responsible for:

  • Representing our chapter on Research Director web conferences
  • Staying abreast of current industry trends, technologies and techniques
  • Sharing those trends, technologies and techniques with the members through LinkedIn group discussions, Newsletter articles and chapter website content
How much time does it take?

That depends on you, really. We would like something contributed from the Research Director at least monthly.

But I don't consider myself an expert of that caliber.

No one does. That's our nature as people. The truth is, though, if you're a member of a professional organization or hold a professional certification, then you are just not giving yourself enough credit. Seriously. If you monitor the trade chatter on the web, via email distribution lists and so on, then you will no doubt see things that interest you. Well, if it interests you, then it will likely interest someone else! So share it!

Can I step down if I don't feel comfortable after I get into it?

Absolutely. It needs to be something you enjoy doing--at least on some level. If it feels like drudgery or you're just not comfortable int he role, then don't do it. No harm, no foul.

How do I get started?

Contact Bill Wells or any of the other chapter leaders and let them know you're interested.
