ISACA Training Programs

In this course participants learn the need for an IT control framework and how COBIT addresses this need by providing a globally accepted IT governance and control framework. The course explains the elements of the COBIT framework and supporting materials in a logical and example-driven approach for everyone interested in obtaining foundation-level knowledge of COBIT.

The course material is supported by practical exercises built around a virtual company. Candidates learn the true meaning of COBIT by practicing the use of COBIT in a safe, case-based scenario. An exam preparation module is included in the course, preparing participants to take the COBIT Foundation exam.

• How COBIT meets the requirement for an IT Governance Framework
• How COBIT is used with other standards and best practices
• The functions that COBIT provides and the benefits of using COBIT
• The COBIT Framework and all the components of COBIT (Control Objectives, Control Practices, Management Guidelines, Assurance Guidelines)
• How to apply COBIT in a practical situation and how the use of COBIT is supported by the ITGI.

ISACA COBIT Foundation Course Accredited Trainers

ISACA offers professionals who have mastered the content in the COBIT Foundation Course an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge by taking an exam and earning a certificate. These professionals understand the IT management issues organizations are facing and know how COBIT can respond to these challenges. They understand when to use specific elements of COBIT and what the recommended application of COBIT means in practice for any organization.

These professionals are ready and prepared to participate in COBIT projects in an organization or participate in the next level of COBIT training (ISACA’s Implementing IT Governance Using COBIT and Val IT course).

The COBIT Foundation Course and COBIT Foundation Exam are equally applicable to IT auditors, IT managers, IT quality professionals, IT leadership, IT developers, process practitioners and managers in IT service providing firms. The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions and requires a score of 70% or higher to pass.

COBIT is an authoritative, up-to-date international set of generally accepted IT management good practices and control objectives written for business executives, IT professionals and IT auditors. It continues to develop as the leading guidance and set of resources for helping organizations to better manage IT, and provides a framework for implementing IT governance. In response to the need for guidance on how to implement COBIT to support governance initiatives and IT management practices, ISACA has developed this new workshop specifically aimed at IT managers and practitioners. The workshop will provide newly developed methods to help guide implementation activities and is supported by several case studies.

The participant will learn more about:

• The principles and objectives of COBIT and the COBIT framework
• The IT Governance Institute approach to IT governance and how COBIT supports this IT management capability using the COBIT maturity models and control objectives
• How to plan control improvements using control objectives and control practices
• How to create a performance measurement framework using COBIT’s metrics and scorecards

Prerequisites:

The participant should have a detailed understanding of the underlying COBIT framework. Successful completion of the COBIT Foundation Course is required.

A number of commercial training companies have licensed COBIT content from ISACA and ITGI as the basis for the development of their own courseware. As official licensees of COBIT for training purposes, these commercial training organizations are helping to advance the awareness and understanding of COBIT around the world. Since these courses are not developed by ISACA, the association does not review and endorse the training course nor does it accredit the trainers delivering the course materials.

Organizations and individuals licensed to develop courseware based on COBIT must offer the COBIT Foundation Exam at the conclusion of the training course. The exam is administered by a proctor that is independent of the training provider.

How to become a trainer

Accreditation is awarded on a course by course basis. In order to become accredited to teach ISACA-developed COBIT courses, certain criteria must be satisfied as described below.

• Be an ISACA member and maintain membership throughout the term of the agreement
• Demonstrate a high level of prior technical training experience and credentials
• Demonstrate familiarity and knowledge of the content of each course where accreditation is being sought
• Possess a minimum of 2 years of practical experience in using COBIT and/or in implementing COBIT in an enterprise
• Complete the COBIT Foundation on-line Course and earn the COBIT Foundation Certificate
• Attend a *Train the Trainer* workshop or a course delivered by an ISACA accredited trainer for each course where accreditation is sought
• Report courses planned and delivered to ISACA
• Pay ISACA a royalty for the use of course material
• Achieve and maintain a course evaluation level of quality of 4.0 or better on a 5 (high) point scale
• Deliver a minimum of two (2) courses, for each course accredited, annually

*Train the Trainer* workshops are primarily conducted by ITpreneurs (ITP). Trainers seeking accreditation may choose to attend an ITP workshop or attend a course delivered by an ISACA accredited trainer.
