Message From the President

ISACA BRISBANE PLANS 2012 AND BEYOND

The Brisbane Chapter Board met on Friday 20 January 2012 to reflect on 2011 and discuss strategies for the coming 12-24 months. 2011 highlights included running a successful CACS 2011 conference and significant membership growth and retention in the Chapter. In 2012, ISACA Brisbane will continue to grow and add value to our members through a number of new and exciting initiatives.

In terms of professional development, we'll be trialling PD sessions in the morning and late afternoon/evening to better suit members' schedules. We are also looking at holding some PD sessions down on the Gold Coast. We'll continue to partner with fellow associations and leading training providers to offer PD sessions and training courses on assurance, security and governance. ISACA will also hold its annual introductory and advanced IS audit courses in Brisbane. Deloitte is kindly hosting our PD sessions this year. ISACA has also worked with the ACS to establish an IT risk management special interest group that will meet quarterly. Finally Brisbane will look to hold its inaugural one-day IT risk management symposium this year that will complement the regional CACS conference. The symposium will also integrate our annual Value Management Forum which makes its return in 2012. More information on the symposium will be coming out soon.

With membership, we'll be looking to improve engagement with members through better communications with members via email, website and social media (including this e-newsletter) and recognition of new and longstanding members. We see student members as a key area for growth and will seek to sponsor up to 30 student memberships as well as continue our commitment to academic prizes in IT audit across the major universities.

ISACA internationally is recognising the need to have a dedicated Research and Standards Director but Brisbane has had such a director for several years now. We'll further strengthen our ties with universities through engaging with our academic advocates in the major universities and have established a reference group to review and comment on emerging standards and research.

Finally ISACA Brisbane couldn't achieve anything without a great team of dedicated volunteers. 2012 is my final year as your Chapter President as I'll be handing over to our Vice President Mario Bojilov at the next AGM. We've had a recent rise in interest to volunteer on the Board and we discussed ways to engage these people to deliver more for our members and plan for succession.

So 2012 and beyond is looking very positive. Best wishes to you all in 2012 and I look forward to having a chat with you during the year.

Regards
Kevin Mar Fan
ISACA Brisbane President
