Event Overview
The implementation of an Enterprise Architecture practice in each organization is a unique undertaking. This is based on factors such as: maturity, trust, finding and culture. The Enterprise Architecture discipline has evolved over the years and has established an increasing amount of influence in organizations. With this increased exposure there is a need to provide a pragmatic yet strategic direction for Enterprise Architecture. This discussion will present lessons learned in Enterprise Architecture programs in various organizations, as well as the opportunities that currently exist in the Government of Canada context.

Speaker Bio
Mark Steski is recently retired and had the pleasure of finishing his career as the Chief Technology Officer at Public Services and Procurement Canada. He is passionate about innovation and continually searches for ways to make life simpler and easier through technology. He followed his high school’s guidance counsellor’s advice to study Computer Science resulting in a 33-year career in information technology. During his career he was drawn to solving client problems using technology giving him a wealth of experience in Client Relationships, Project Management and Enterprise Architecture. His love of learning led him to assignments at a number of public and private sector organizations.

It covers numerous EA Frameworks, focusing on TOGAF (the core of the courses is a TOGAF accredited Practitioner Course) and illustrates numerous deliverables. The course will prepare individuals to conduct /manage EA using global best practices and case studies. The courses also cover the integration of EA with Business Planning, Governance, Portfolio Management (i.e. PMBOK, PRINCE2), Systems Development (i.e. SDLC) and Operations Management (e.g. ITIL) and addresses how typical Government initiatives (e.g. Accountability, Reference Models, Shared Services) fit. Workshop Description:
The protection of information is a critical function for all enterprises. Cybersecurity is a growing and rapidly changing field, and it is crucial that the central concepts that frame and define this increasingly pervasive field are understood by professionals who are involved and concerned with the security implications of Information Technology (IT). The CSX Fundamentals Workshop is designed for this purpose, as well as to provide insight into the importance of cybersecurity, and the integral role of cybersecurity professionals.
 
This 2-day workshop offers expert instruction on foundational areas of cyber security and will show participants how to: understand basic cyber security concepts and definitions; apply cyber security architecture principles; identify components of a cyber security architecture; understand malware analysis concepts and methodology; and recognize the methodologies and techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions via intrusion detection technologies. The workshop will also prepare learners for the CSX Fundamentals exam as part of ISACA's Cybersecurity Nexus program which offers a knowledge-based certificate in the introductory concepts that frame and define the standards, guidelines and practices of the industry.

The AEA and ISACA are pleased to announce the 15th of February 2018 professional seminar topic on “Capability Traceability Framework”. It is for architects, auditors, managers and executives who want to have a clear traceability between enterprise capabilities and their supporting technology assets. We will be taping the presentation for those who cannot make it. The event counts for 2 CPE/PDU and is of particular interest to CISA, CGEIT, and CRISC folks and those interested in continuous audit that the Enterprise Architecture Repository can facilitate.
 
Workshop Description:
The purpose of the presentation is to Introduce a Capability Traceability Framework for establishing alignment between business capabilities of an organization to the IT services, and assets, supporting it, while providing traceability from any IT investment to the Enterprise Business Capabilities (” what the organization does”), and its outcomes.
Specifically, as part of the Border Risk Assessment business capability modelling exercise, a framework was established for …
•tracing from the business capabilities to the business processes of the Agency
•tracing from the business processes to the IT services and assets that implement them
•tracing from the business capabilities (through the business processes) to the organizational units, programs / activities of the Agency that realize the capabilities
•tracing from the business capabilities to the Agency outcomes they support
The traceability framework provides the basis for answering questions about the business processes of the Agency as well as questions about IT services and assets that support these business processes so that executives can clearly view what the organization does and what its capabilities are.

Instructor Bio: Ian Dumanski- Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
Ian is recognized by Gartner as an industry leader in Capability Modeling and you may have seen him presenting at numerous Gartner Enterprise Architecture summits. He has over 17 years’ experience in Business to IT design and enterprise architecture within both Private Industry and the Government of Canada. He is the Lead Enterprise Architect for the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) where he has developed the program of business driven, outcome based, Enterprise Architecture. Ian has successfully lead business to IT transformation initiatives, in multiple Federal Government organizations over many years, utilizing business capability modeling, to define business aligned, IT investment and alignment opportunities.
 
Using the Capability Modeling Traceability Framework, he has developed, Ian will demonstrate how to make the alignment from business, to the organizations and its outcomes, the systems that support it, and the underlying infrastructure with which to host the business solutions.

Highlights from the Canada Strategic Reference Model (GSRM) Event

The ISACA/AEA Professional Seminar on the Governments of Canada Strategic Reference Model (GSRM) went extremely well. Speakers Gary Doucet, former Chief Architect Government of Canada and Neil Kemp, a senior business architect who has specialized in the use of the GSRM, gave a clear overview of the GSRM and its potential use in any level of government. Thirty professionals attended the event held at KPMG, the chapter event sponsor. Presentation materials are available on the ISACA Website.

Steven has authored several published chapters in software best-practices books and regularly contributes articles and acts as an editor/reviewer of other publications, including IEEE and is known for his interactive style and unique logical perspectives that encourages value-focused transformative change.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
The CEO and course instructor is Robert Weisman MSc, PEng, PMP, CD. Bob has 35 years of experience and has been an Enterprise Architecture (EA) practitioner since 1993 in Canada, Australia, Europe and the US in both government (25 years) and private (10 years) sectors. He was a major contributor to The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF®) Version 9 & 9.1 and is heavily involved in the next version of TOGAF. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: The protection of information is a critical function for all enterprises. Cybersecurity is a growing and rapidly changing field, and it is crucial that the central concepts that frame and define this increasingly pervasive field are understood by professionals who are involved and concerned with the security implications of Information Technology (IT). The CSX Fundamentals Workshop is designed for this purpose, as well as to provide insight into the importance of cybersecurity, and the integral role of cybersecurity professionals

This 2 day workshop offers expert instruction on foundational areas of cyber security and will show participants how to: understand basic cyber security concepts and definitions; apply cyber security architecture principles; identify components of a cyber security architecture; understand malware analysis concepts and methodology; and recognize the methodologies and techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions via intrusion detection technologies. The workshop qualifies for 15 continuing professional education (CPE) hours, and will also prepare learners for the CSX Fundamentals exam as part of ISACA's Cybersecurity Fundamentals program which offers a knowledge-based certificate in the introductory concepts that frame and define the standards, guidelines and practices of the industry.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Steve Lavergne is a Senior Cyber Security Analyst and Project Manager with the Bank of Canada. He is currently responsible for leading security governance, risk and compliance activities, while also managing the development and maintenance of cyber security directives, standards and processes. Steve volunteers as a Director and a CSXF Trainer with ISACA-Ottawa Chapter, and serves as a Vice President for ISSA-Ottawa.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This two (2) day course introduces the candidate to the five basic principles which are covered in detail and includes extensive guidance on enablers for governance and management of IT.  The foundational CoBiT 5 knowledge provided through this course will prepare/qualify candidates for the official Peoplecert COBIT 5 certification examination. The exam will be available to each participant through an Exam Voucher, allowing the exam to be taken at the conclusion of the course or within 30 days.  Upon success in this exam, the candidate will receive the official Peoplecert COBIT 5 certification. This course also qualifies for 15 CPEs and includes course materials, as well as the following food & beverage provided each day of the course: light breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon coffee. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Mr. Tremblay is a university graduate (computers science - Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence) from the Royal Military College of Canada. He worked as an Air Force officer in the Canadian Forces for 22 years and now heads a company, Excelsa Technologies Consulting Inc., providing consulting and training services in Canada since 2004. He is certified 'Project Management, in Governance, and certified ITIL® Master. He is certified as a Consultant Manager and Auditor in IT Services ISO/IEC 20000 and also advanced in ISO/IEC 27002. Finally, Mr. Tremblay is certified as a TIPA® Lead Assessor. Mr. Tremblay provides expert management consulting and training services in information technology and he has authored many course material, such as ITIL®, ISO, COBIT® 5 Foundation and Assessor, and more.

Mr. Tremblay is also the Chair for Canada for the work of the ISO Committee 1/Sub-Committee 40/IT Service Management and Governance, and responsible for ensuring the views of Canada to the evolution of the ISO/ IEC 20000, ISO/IEC 38500, ISO/IEC 30105 and other closely related standards.

The ISACA Montreal Chapter invites you to its special full-day “Harvesting Value from IT” seminar event, which will be held on September 7, 2017. Hosted by one of Canada's top IT leaders, Mr. Robert Collins, and Sprott School of Business’ Dr. Gerald Grant, this seminar guides attendees through new models for approaching investments in Information Technology.
 
Please note that the event will be held in English only.

Seminar
This unique learning experience seminar is an interactive training session, which includes presentations, exercises and open discussions. It provides business and IT executives with new insights on how to manage IT to deliver real value to the organization. It also challenges current thinking, combining extensive academic research in real world settings with ideas tested and implemented in practice.
 
New models will be introduced in order to help IT and other professionals achieve real business value from their IT investments. These include:
 
•The Value Cycle: A means to communicate value that creates real and lasting alignment
•The Value Realization Cycle: A model that shows how investments in technology become translated into measurable business value

Dr. Gerald Grant is Director of the Centre for Information Technology, Organizations, and People (CITOP) and Associate Professor at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University in Ottawa. His work focuses on the strategic management of information systems in organizations, particularly on issues around governance of IT in organizational and inter-organizational settings.

On June 2, 2015, we held our Annual General Meeting during which we hosted a very informative panel discussion on data loss prevention. The AGM was a great success with well over 100 registered participants; more than any past AGM the chapter has seen.  I wish to sincerely thank our panelists and Board members who helped make the AGM this great.
 
During the AGM, each of our Board Members had the opportunity to provide highlights from the Annual Report of the various activities the Board has led over the last year; including our programming, academic relations, certifications, membership, finance, and marketing. If you have not already read the previously circulated, I encourage you to do so.
 
The AGM also gave us the opportunity to thank departing Board members, recognize newly certified members, and present our revised bylaws.
 
A significant portion of the AGM was dedicated to electing the new Board for 2015-17.  You will find the new Board Roster elected at our AGM.  I invite you to reach out to any of us with questions and comments that you may have, and wish to remind you that we are actively looking for chapter members to be involved in one of our committees or advisory positions. Our most pressing current requirement is for the Programs Committee, to help us plan, coordinate and carry out our various events for the year.
 
I feel again quite privileged to have been elected as Chapter President, and look forward to working with our dynamic new Board over the next two years!
