Jan Joost BierhoffISACA’s IT Audit Leaders Forums, conducted this year at North America CACS and EuroCACS, fostered productive dialogue about real-world challenges impacting IT audit directors.

I was fortunate enough to participate at EuroCACS, and I was especially pleased with the insights gained from listening to my peer IT audit directors. The opportunities and risks discussed were a confirmation that our audit teams are focusing on a similar set of emerging risks.

On top of this, the forum facilitated an honest and open discussion amongst peers about the short- and long-term challenges we are facing to continue to perform high-quality audits.

Going forward, special emphasis needs to be placed on raising our joint understanding of:

  1. New technology that is deployed;
  2. New development approaches that are taken;
  3. Finding the ultimate balance of soft/hard competences among audit teams (data analysts, ethical hackers, sociologists, fraud analysts, etc.), while maintaining the quality of audits executed.

Altogether, it was an inspiring and insightful forum that provided support for selecting the proper audits while shaping my 2018 audit plan and growing my European network.
