US-based ISACA members and credential candidates planning to invest in their future will be able to use 529 education savings accounts to help fund their ISACA certifications as part of the recent spending legislation passed in Washington DC.
The bipartisan Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, which ISACA has supported for years, was included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and will now modernize how Americans can access and fund the education and training they need to thrive in today’s workforce. 529 plans are tax-advantaged savings accounts designed to help families set aside money for education. Historically, they could only be used for traditional university tuition and fees. Now, plan participants can use 529 savings to cover the cost of non-degree credentialing programs – which means ISACA certifications and training are officially eligible.
This change makes a meaningful difference by removing a financial barrier for individuals seeking to pursue high-demand, skills-based career paths and recognizes that traditional education is not the only path to success—particularly in fast-evolving sectors like cybersecurity and IT, where certifications and professional credentials are essential for employment and career advancement.
As a global professional association focused on advancing the capabilities of the technology workforce, ISACA has long supported expanding access to flexible, affordable and accredited credentialing opportunities. We are proud to play a part in ensuring that Americans have the tools to gain the specialized skills that employers require, while also addressing critical workforce shortages across the economy.
We applaud the broad bipartisan and bicameral support the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act has received and are pleased that the path to advancing your career just became more affordable and accessible. ISACA's government relations team will continue working in Washington DC and around the globe advocating for policies that recognize the value of professional credentials and supporting the people who pursue them.
