Every January, ISACA celebrates Mentorship Month—a time to spotlight the power of human connection amplified by purpose and community. For ISACA members, mentorship isn’t just a career tool. It’s a way to build confidence, leadership and momentum.
For the past three years, the ISACA Mentorship Program has helped more than 1,400 members in more than 100 countries connect, learn and grow together. Our approach is simple: mentees choose mentors who match their goals, and each partnership is supported by a flexible plan for real progress.
Mentorship at ISACA
Mentoring at ISACA is open to members at every career stage—students, early-career professionals, seasoned experts and those in transition. Growth isn’t linear, and learning goes both ways.
What makes our program unique? It’s the conversations among members of our unmatched global community, not just the technology, that spark real change. Participants describe their meetings as energizing, clarifying and transformative. A resounding 97% say their meetings are helpful or breakthrough, citing outcomes like valuable discussions, engaged partners and clear next steps. In fact, 98% of completed connections report positive outcomes for their entire partnership.
“My mentorship experience was incredibly rewarding. My mentor guided me through my career path, provided valuable resources, and supported me during my job search. His sense of humor made difficult situations easier to handle. This journey has not only prepared me for my career but also helped me grow as an individual.” – ISACA Mentee
These impactful mentor and mentee conversations are supported with a tool introduced last year, Guided Conversations, giving participants access to over 500 expert-written, structured meeting agendas covering a wide range of professional mentoring topics.
The Impact of Mentorship
Research shows that mentoring leads to more promotions, raises, and confidence, delivering benefits to mentors and mentees alike.
- Participants in employee mentoring programs are ~20% more likely to receive raises and promotions than their non-mentored peers.
- Professionals report that mentoring makes them feel more valued, connected and engaged with their work.
- 87% of mentors and mentees report increased confidence as a result of their partnership.
- Mentoring supports meaningful connections and accountability — key drivers of career progress.
At ISACA, members tell us mentorship helped them step into leadership, expand their networks and tackle new challenges. Here are some examples:
“Having recently changed careers from education to cybersecurity, the mentorship program through ISACA, and my mentor specifically, have greatly increased my confidence moving forward within this new and dynamic field.” – ISACA Mentee
“The ISACA Mentorship Program provided invaluable insights and helped me grow both personally and professionally. My mentor was instrumental in guiding me through challenges and developing my leadership skills. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.” – ISACA Mentee
“I find the mentorship program useful for both the mentor and the mentee (I have been a mentor 3 times so far). What I find particularly interesting and stimulating is the diversity of the experience, culture and background, since I have been a mentor before, but within my own organization. I hope we learnt from both sides, and we will keep the relationship even after the mentorship program has been completed.” - ISACA Mentor
“This mentorship experience reaffirmed the value of meaningful connections, open communication, and shared learning in personal and professional development. Watching my mentee gain confidence and clarity over time was incredibly rewarding. Mentorship truly highlights the impact of investing in others.” – ISACA Mentor
Empower Your Career
Building a “whole” professional capable of reaching ambitious career goals involves professional development beyond technical skills. Strategic thinking, leadership, communication and human-centered abilities are necessary skills to cultivate and practice. These ripple out to strengthen teams, organizations and the profession as a whole, at a time when change is rapid and constant.
This Mentorship Month, we invite all ISACA members to join the ISACA Mentorship Program—whether you’re seeking guidance, ready to give back, or both. Everyone has something to learn, and everyone has something to offer.
