ISACA Offers Blueprint for Ransomware Preparations and Defense

The probability and severity of ransomware attacks can be mitigated with proper prevention strategies, according to a new ISACA resource that positions organizations to fortify their preparedness.

Blueprint for Ransomware Defense outlines steps organizations can take to be better positioned to thwart ransomware, including identifying key roles on an incident response team. The roles should be clearly communicated and documented.

“Having a defined strategy and roadmap to reduce the likelihood of a large-scale attack is the first step in exposing a ransomware attack for what it truly is—an avoidable disaster,” according to the white paper.  “This requires preparation. When enterprises have established a defined strategy for ransomware that is managed within the level of risk they are prepared to accept, well-informed decisions can be made. If a ransomware incident occurs, it will be managed within the risk appetite of the business and well-informed decisions will be made.”

The white paper details major ransomware incident types, threat actors, current observed ransomware trends, the role of governance in dealing with ransomware, and more.
